On Oct. 21, about 32 prominent members of the Rivers West Senatorial zone of the APC gathered at the Tropicana Hotel, Ula-Upata Road Ahoada in what was described as a stake-holders’ meeting under the leadership of Senator Wilson Ake. At the end of the meeting, they released a communique in which they endorsed Senator Magnus Abe to vie for the party’s gubernatorial ticket for the 2019 governorship election. The communique listed out the agreements reaced at the meeting including the following: They affirmed unalloyed support and  passed a vote of confidence on Senator Wilson Asinobi Ake  as the Rivers West Senatorial District leader of APC. This was obviously in direct opposition to the recent sacking of Senator Ake by the Amaechi led APC. Then the communique went for the jugular, ‘ Without equivocation and with the power and support of both the APC Constitution and Nigerian Constitution, the meeting stated that Senator Magnus Ngei Abe’s eminent qualification to aspire to the office of Governor of Rivers State under our party could not be questioned.’ And for good measure, the communique finished on the war path.  ‘Accordingly, the meeting called on him to present himself  for the 2019 Gubernatorial election under our great party APC, as he clearly has the support and approval of a vast majority of our party faithful across the state.’ According to Kennedy Friday, Abe’s aide, plans are underway to pick the faction’s leader in APC Rivers East. A rough guess would put Chidi Wihioka in the picture.

Forgiven Amachree,, A brief analysis would show that those who did not attend the pro-Abe meeting outnumbered those who did by a ratio of 3 to one. Still it is now clear enough that the Abe faction has decided to take on anyone blocking Abe’s path to the party’s guber primaries, even the state party leader.
