For more than a month now, Nsima Ekere, the controversial MD of NDDC is yet to step into his office due to the profligate and opaque refurbishment contract which he awarded to Julius Berger. It is alleged that is worth over a billion naira. Now why spend that whopping amount to refurbish his office when the NDDC permanent secretariat on Eastern by-pass is more than 50% completed. Why spend such a whopping amount on an office which he will not use for more than a year and a half. This is against the background of ABR investigation of Obong Ekere’s alleged embezzlement of N250 million of NDDC funds. Since ABR published this allegation, other sources have also alleged that contractors now pay 10% kick-back now as a condition for getting paid. So much for TSA.
Relying on the instrumentality of the FOI Act, ABR wrote to the CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele and the central bank has undertaken to process the request to provide transparency regarding the alleged N400 million, paid out from the CBN operated TSA last December to a company, on behalf of NDDC, out of which the MD Ekere is alleged to have grabbed N250 million. If the CBN shows transparency in this matter, Nigerians will then know what manner of MD they have at the NDDC. It should be noted that this would not be possible without PMB’s anti-graft agenda.
